Pete and I played baseball, basketball and football from Little League through High School. He was indeed a superlative athlete. More importantly, he was a wonderful friend and teammate.

Peter P. Wisniewski
I grew up with the Wisniewski's in Weehawken, NJ. I remember first noting Pete's athletic ability at the annual Webster school/Lincoln school softball game when we were about eleven. I t was notably special very early on that Pete was special. He moved so gracefully at shortstop and would corral everything that came near him or actually anything that was hit by an opponent. Pete was extremely competitive and great fun to watch. As the varsity shortstop at Weekawken which which was the inevitable progression of his talent . He continued his dynamic and graceful baseball play. If a ball was hit to the left side of the infield you knew Pete would track it down and make the play. He was as gifted an athlete as ever played any game. We shared the basketball court at WHS under the tutelage of Coach Perry DelPugatorio for two seasons together. Pete was a very talented guard.
Part of his success has to be credited to Joe and Barbara. Barbara was the best female athlete I had ever seen until I was about 50. And having a big brother like Joe gave Pete another extra advantage. Playing sports constantly against older players with his brother It has always been the fast track to developing talent in youngsters.
But Pete's greatest gift was playing football. The most difficult thing to do on a football field and in sports is to pass a football down the field. As eleven large angry players were trying to tackle him, Pete had the toughness to ignore the rush, work his way through his pass route progressions and to ignore the defensive backs and consistently hit his downfield targets. Pete's additional greatness was, if the passing options were shut down he would tuck the ball away and run with the ball. Very often for a touchdown.
One of his bigger games was the upset of Snyder High. Pete threw for two touchdowns and ran for another. That would have resulted in a WHS loss 18 -17 except Pete refused to quit and threw a pass for a two point play and a 19-18 win for WHS.
Pete was chosen as the Hudson County Player of the week in football . A well deserved honor.
It is 9/9/2015 and we lost you on Sept 1, 2015 Pete. I just found out from Kathy Ganim Pete. I have to pay my respects to you and your loved ones. If it had not been for you, especially, and the rest of our 1962 WHS football team and coach Kaplan, I never would have been able to attend college.
Thanks Pete.
Jack.
