Richard Bartoli Obituary

Richard J. Bartoli

Richard J. Bartoli passed away peacefully Friday, December 7th at Norwalk Hospital with his family by his side. Born February 3, 1944 to Gilda and Frank Bartoli, he was predeceased by his brother Frank (Bart) Bartoli and his sister Grace Bartoli Delia.
Richard was born and raised in Norwalk and attended local schools. He attended Carson Long Military Academy and graduated from Brien McMahon High School, Class of 1962, the first graduating class. He also graduated from McAllister School of Mortuary Sciences in New York City and began his career with Magner Funeral Home as an embalmer and funeral director. At the time of his father's retirement, he joined the family business, Bartoli Electric on Knight Street, for 38 years until he sold it in 2006. In his retirement he joined Norm Bloom and Son where he began and ran the Bloom's website.
Throughout his working years Richard was active in the Rotary Club and served as its President, the Laurel Club, Master Builders, the Norwalk Shellfish Commission, the Building Board of Appeals, the Norwalk Chamber of Commerce and the CT Chapter of NECA.
Richard is survived by his devoted wife, Claire, his daughter Anne Marie and her husband L. Roger Silva, and the loves of his life, Charlotte Grace and Lucas Richard, his grandchildren. He also leaves his brother-in-law Joseph Delia and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Louise and Raymond Gagnon and many loving nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A devoted family man Richard will be loved and missed by all who knew him. There are many who will fondly remember the Sunday barbeques and pig roasts at the Bartoli's where family and friends would gather for an afternoon of food and fun. The day always included game after game of competitive water volleyball while Richard stood at his cookout and pizza oven for hours serving everyone.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Avenue, Norwalk, on Wednesday, December 12th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, December 13th at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew's Church, Scribner Avenue, Norwalk with burial at St. John's Cemetery, Richards Avenue, Norwalk.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Yale New Haven Smilow Cancer Center, Dr. Richard Gervasi, Dr. Arthur Heliotis and the ICU staff of Norwalk Hospital.
Remembrances in his name may be made to St. Matthew's Church, 216 Scribner Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06850, The Norwalk Hospital Foundation, 30 Stevens Street, Norwalk, CT 06851 or Yale New Haven Cancer Research, 20 York Avenue, New Haven, CT 06510. Dearest Claire, Anne Marie, Roger and grandchildren,
What a testimony tonight was to the life that Richard lived. May you have comfort knowing how loved Richard was and the full life he lived. He was about as good as they get for a father, grandfather, husband and friend. We will always remember him cooking in his outdoor kitchen a scrumptuously delicious meal and both of your hospitality. The last memory we have of the BBQs was our late grandfather Poppy, downing about 200 raw clams. We are sure that Poppy had thought he had gone to clam heaven that day! We love you and are praying for your peace during this difficult time. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11: 28-30.

Richard was both a friend and mentor to me. He was never to busy to ask about my family or how he could help me through anything. I will always miss and remember him.

Dear Claire, Anne Marie & Family,
We are all so very sorry to hear of Richard's passing. We have so many loving memories of all of you and the good times we've had, back when there was Fieldstone Terrace, the disco years, model airplanes and the time Richard spent with Sean and Billy building, flying and crashing and then putting them back together - all of these led to a lifelong friendship that will never be forgotten. The wonderful times at your home were such fun (my boys, Winston and Billy, always joked and laughed at your sign "Welcome to our ool" notice there's no "P" in it!"). We hope that these good memories will fill your heart with joy as they can never be taken away. We are sorry we can't be with you at this time but will continue to pray that God will give you strength and comfort. Love, Betty & Bill Genovese & Family

Dear Claire and Anne Marie and Family,
We are so very sorry to hear of Richard's passing. Your lovely obituary sums up all that Richard was - a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. We are saddened that we are unable to comfort and be with you during this most sad time but we hope those precious memories of the many good times will enlighten your hearts. My boys (Winston and Billy) also talked about going to your home and being greeted by the "Welcome to our "ool" - notice there's no "P" in it - they always joked and laughed whenever we talked about the wonderful days at your home. We too hope that your hearts will be filled with so many joyous memories. Love you and God Bless, Betty & Bill Genovese & Family

Dear Mrs Bartoli and family,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I remember growing up in the fifties with a wonderful neighbor and friend. The whole family, Gilda and Frank, Grace and Bart made me feel so welcome all the time. This time of year they would put up the most beautiful outdoor Christmas display which I still consider better than any I've seen since. I know Richard will always be part of us.

Dear Claire and Family, I remember Uncle Richard as a teenager, doing cannon-balls and throwing us around in the "Sirico's" pool. I remember his laugh, and the fact that my brother Wayne and cousin Tommy were very jealous when he came to visit the Delia's on Boulder Circle in his vet. They'd always run over to check it out. I remember the HUGE SIGN Grace displayed for Claire's "40th Birthday" and how he laughed when he saw her face when she looked at it for all to see. Hard to realize him as a Grandfather, but what a great guy. I'll miss him and never forget him. God Bless you and you are all in my prayers.

Love, Susan (Ugolik) O'Connor

"Uncle" as we affectionately called him or 'Unc" for short had this amazing ability and unselfish desire to reach out and share with his family, friends and acquaintances all the gifts and blessings this life and our God had given him. Along with his beloved wife Claire, they posed a zest for life that will sustain our heavy hearts for a life time by surrounding our family with laughter, gracious hospitality, an unwavering spirit of joy, faith and hope and above all Love. Uncle endured his illness with great fortitude and I find comfort knowing he is at peace now with all those who have gone before him.

Dear Claire and family,
Our deepest sympathy on Richard's passing. As a young boy I lived two houses down from him on Weed Avenue, and he was always very kind and most plesant to me. Richard also did quite a bit to help St. Matthew, for which we are grateful. He was a good man and from what I can see, a good husband and father as well. He will be truly missed.
