Richard Hersom

Richard T. Hersom, 84 died peacefully in Norwalk Hospital on June 14, 2016. He was born in Brunswick Maine and was a son to the late Richard and Hope Hersom and grew up in Bath Maine. He served in the US Navy from 1949-1950. He graduated from Farmington State Teachers College in Farmington Maine and received a master’s degree from the University of Maine. Richard taught for 35 years starting at Magrath and Fox Run Elementary Schools. Ponus Middle School and Norwalk High English Department. He directed numerous drama productions at the various schools. In his younger years Richard was active in amateur theater groups in the area. Richard is survived by his wife, of 54 years, Annaliese and his four children, Lynn and her husband Len, Amy and her husband Jon, Walter and his wife Cheryl and Andrew and his wife Leslie and by eleven grandchildren, Lauren, Alison, Olivia, Annaliese, Zachary, Hope, Colin, Frank, Maxwell, Samuel and Avery. He is also survived by his brother Robert. He is predeceased by his brother George. A service will be celebrated Saturday June 25 at 10 am at the Norwalk United Methodist Church, 718 West Avenue.
