Rosa Maldonado Esquilin

Rosa Maldonado Esquilin of Norwalk passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at home after a long illness. She was 71. Her husband, Benito H. Esquilin passed away in June of 2008.

Born in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico on October 02, 1939, she was one of eighteen children to the late Cosmic and Maria (Vasquez) Maldonado and attended local schools. She settled in Norwalk in 1958.

Rosa was family oriented and loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing dominos and loved to cook. She was a special lady who will be missed by all.

A devout Catholic, Rosa was a member of St. Joseph R.C. Church of South Norwalk for many years.

She is survived by two sons, William D. Esquilin of Norwalk and Wilton A. and his wife, Nancy Esquilin of Meriden; one daughter, Eisabell and her husband, Edwin Garcia of Norwalk; seven brothers Gabriel, Rafael, Domingo, Bartolo, Santo, Daniel and Juan; seven sisters, Antonia, Susan, Casiana, Juana, Carmen Maria, Christina and Carmen; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Rosa's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, August 13, 2010 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street from 5:00PM – 8:00PM.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 9:20AM from the parlor, when the funeral cortege will proceed to St. Joseph R.C. Church, 85 South Main Street, South Norwalk, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM by Rev. Gilbert P. D''Souza.

She will be laid to rest alongside her husband in St. John Cemetery, Norwalk, following the Mass.

Flowers may be sent, or donations in her memory may be made directly to St. Joseph R.C. Church.
