Clifford Nelson Obituary



Clifford H. 'Cliff' Nelson, 70, died Sunday, July 20, 2008, at his home in Grand Island.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island, with the Rev. Bill Pavuk officiating. Burial will be in Grand Island City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Nelson was born on Feb. 5, 1938, at Grand Island to Glen and Florence (Meisner) Nelson.

Survivors of the immediate family include three sons, Steve Nelson of North Andover, Mass., Jay Nelson of Ridgway, Colo., and Rodney Nelson of Warr Acres, Okla.; a daughter, Kerri Hudson of Midwest City, Okla.; his mother of Grand Island; and two brothers, Jack Nelson and Glen Nelson, both of Grand Island.

Additional survivors include eight grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

He grew up in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High School in 1956. After graduation, he attended Kearney State College for two years. He lived in Grand Island and worked for Spencer Chemical and Gulf Chemical. He moved to Oklahoma City and worked for Kerr McGee Chemical. He also was self-employed, running a furniture repair business in Oklahoma City. He moved to Las Vegas and then to Atlantic City, where he worked as a carpenter and as a stage-craft for casino shows and boxing matches. He moved back to Grand Island, where he worked for Stoltenberg Cabinets as a cabinet maker until his retirement.

He enjoyed restoring automobiles, collecting and working on antiques.

He was preceded in death by his father, Glen Nelson.
