Donald Mulinix Obituary

Donald Raymond Mulinix, 78, of Grand Island died Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Evangelical Free Church, with Rev. Paul Canady officiating.

Inurnment will be in Westlawn Cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Monday at Apfel Funeral Home of Grand Island.

Mr. Mulinix was born Nov. 30, 1933, at Fairbury, to Raymond and Ruth (Alloway) Mulinix.

He was preceded in death by a son, Fredrick Wittman.

Survivors of his immediate family include his wife, Mary Mulinix of Grand Island; eight sons and four daughters-in-law, Tony and Tina Mulinix of Grand Island, Curtis Mulinix of Grand Island, Danny Mulinix of Greeley, Colo., Richard Wittman of Omaha, Michael and Jocelyn Mulinix of El Cajon, Calif., Donald 'Bud' and Patty Mulinix of Grand Island, Johnny and Bethany Mulinix of Grand Island, and Jeff Mulinix of Grand Island; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jeff Lyden of Lincoln, Kristy and Tony Casaraz of Grand Island, and Cindy and Chad Jensen of Grand Island; and a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Eddie Mason.

Also surviving are 28 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Donald grew up in Edgar and received education at Edgar Public Schools.

He entered the United States Army on Jan. 6, 1954, and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on March 23, 1956.

Donald was united in marriage to Mary Wittman on Dec. 5, 1964, in Edgar. The couple lived in Hastings, where he worked for a glass company before moving to Grand Island. He worked as a carpenter and truck driver.

He enjoyed fishing with family and friends and barbecue get-togethers. He loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren were the light of his life. He was ornery all the way up to the end.

"Our dad was No. 1 and our King."

In addition to his son, he was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Arlene Kissel and Darlene Melvin; and one great-grandchild, Bailey Inskeep.

Memorials are suggested to the family.
