Eldene Zamzow Obituary

Eldene "Jeep" E. Zamzow, 91, a retired Grand Island banker and community volunteer, died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Faith United Methodist Church, 12th and Eddy Streets. The Rev. Bev Lazendorf will officiate. Burial will be prior to service at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mr. Zamzow joined First National Bank as an assistant cashier in 1957 and retired from its successor bank, Norwest, in 1984 as senior vice president and manager of the installment loans department. Before joining the bank, he had owned and operated the Larsen 66 service station and worked at Wolfe's Hardware.

Active in civic and church affairs, Mr. Zamzow was involved in several banking organizations, Boy and Girl Scouts, Cosmopolitan Club and organizations with a focus on history and museums. He was a lifetime member of Faith United Methodist Church and held memberships in the American Legion and the Prairie Fiber Weavers Guild of Hastings.

He was born July 28, 1918, at Archer the son of John P. and Della Fuehrer Zamzow. At age 2, he moved with his parents to Grand Island, where he attended the public schools and grew to adulthood. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1941 and spent four years in the service.

On Aug. 13, 1950, he married Margery Kiechel in St. Paul. Mrs. Zamzow survives her husband. Other survivors include nephews and nieces, Michael (Sue) Kiechel of Columbus, Ga., Frank (Polly) Partsch of Omaha, Dorinda Partsch of Chesterton, Ind., Nick Partsch (Diane Rolfsmeyer) of Lincoln, and Laura Partsch of West Chester, Pa.; grandnephews and grandnieces, Erich Partsch, David Partsch, Catherine Conlan, Sarah Gilbert, Christopher Kiechel, and Donovan Kiechel, along with 13 great-grandnephews and great-grandnieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Curtis.

Memorials may be directed to Faith United Methodist Church or the Stuhr Museum.

Marge we are so sorry for your loss! Jeep was such a joy and always welcomed us with open arms and his wonderful smile! Our thoughts and prayers are with you! We'll miss you Jeep!!

So sorry for your loss! Jeep and i met in 1972 i had gotten a loan from him at the bank and will never forget how nice he treated me then, Jeep will be in heaven now takeing care of business!

We'll miss you, Jeep! Tammy, Luke & I never made it out to see you as often as we would have liked, but we always had fun when we did. You have a wonderful soul, and I imagine you're enjoying a beautiful homecoming with Jesus Christ & family.
