AURORA - Elizabeth "Liz" Jane Kaufman, age 89, of Aurora, NE, passed away Monday, May 6, 2024 at the Westfield Quality Care in Aurora.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 11th at 10am at St. Mary's Cathedral with Father Robin Bashir celebrant. Burial will follow in the Grand Island City Cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday, May 10th from 5-7pm at All Faiths Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7pm. Memorials suggested to the family for future designation. Elizabeth "Liz" Jane Kaufman was born on December 20, 1934 to Joseph and Monica (Moroney) McDermott in Anselmo. She grew up and attended school in Anselmo.
Liz was united in marriage to Charles "Pete" Kaufman on November 24, 1956. The couple lived in Grand Island and raised their five children.
Liz worked for the telephone company. She was a member of St. Mary's and the Altar Society, helping with many funeral luncheons and various activities over the years. She led the Grand Island Recovery Group which assisted people with panic attacks and anxiety. Pete and Liz owned many rental properties, which kept her busy managing them. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, knitting and crocheting.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Sally Burkholder of Grand Island, Peggy (Tom) Haverland of Dubuque, IA, Nancy Spiehs of Omaha, Mark (Helen) Kaufman of Grand Island and Lisa Snyder of St. Paul; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; brother, Hank McDermott; sisters, Mary Lou Loefelbien and Pat McDermott; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Liz is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles "Pete" Kaufman; sister, Peg Kenoyer; brother, Gene McDermott and son in-law, Jim Spiehs.
