James S. "Jamie" Smith

October 6, 1955 - August 22, 2025

James S. "Jamie" Smith, 69, of St. Paul, Neb., died Friday, August 22, 2025, at his home. Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, August 29, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul, Neb., Rev. Vincent L. Parsons will be the celebrant. Inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Greeley, Neb., with a 1 p.m. committal service. Visitation will be Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the church with a vigil service at 6 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the family with designation at a later date. Jamie was born October 6, 1955, in Greeley, Neb., the son of Lawrence E. and Shirley M. (Butcher) Smith. He grew up in Greeley attending Sacred Heart School and graduating from Greeley High School in 1974. He continued his education at Denver Culinary School followed by Joseph School of Beauty in Grand Island. He worked as a hair stylist before beginning his career with Monfort and later Case New Holland in Grand Island. Jamie worked in maintenance for St. Paul Public School retiring in 2023. He honed his cooking skills working at St. Paul's American Legion Club and Jim's Truck Stop.

Jamie enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, cooking, and traveling.

He will be missed by his children, JJ (Candi Hickey) Smith of Lincoln, Neb., Stuart Smith of St. Paul, Neb., Melissa Graves of North Loup, Neb.; grandchildren, Mckylie Smith, Daphne Smith, Gage (Katherine) Smith, Hailee Smith, Tyson Smith, Nolan Smith, Adisyn Smith, Alandra Luby, and Autumn Luby; brothers, Tom Smith of Greeley, Neb., Paul (Lisa) Smith of Kenesaw, Neb.; sister, Karen (Jim) Bernt of Greeley, Neb.; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jamie was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Shirley Smith; and a brother, Matthew Smith.
