Janice (Jan) Gayle (Leth) Johnson was born on November 20, 1957, the youngest of Marvin and Shirley Leth's five children. Jan was raised in Cairo. Jan attended elementary school in Boelus. She graduated from Centura High School in 1976. Jan attended Central Community College for two years then graduated from the University of Nebraska in Kearney in 2003. Jan received her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Jan sent many of her young adult life managing Pizza Hut in Aurora prior to getting her degree. Jan then was a substitute teacher for several years.
As her children were growing and becoming more involved, Jan enjoyed her years of being a stay-at-home mother. Jan thrived on giving back to her community. Whether she was volunteering or a member of different boards. In 1989, Jan met Matt Johnson. They were married on April 28, 1990, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island after a year of courting. They went on to have five children, whether biological or bonus children. Jan loved being a mother and wife and did whatever she could to please those around her. Jan made sure those around her knew her love for Husker Athletics. If there was a game, press conference, anything Husker related Jan would be there or watching on the tv. Jan enjoyed spending time with her "wine sisters". They would enjoy trying wines at different wineries within Nebraska. Jan recently had enjoyed going to her grandchildren's dance competitions with her daughter, sister and niece where they were able to watch the girls grow in their love for dance.
She was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Leth; mother, Shirley Volquardsen; step-father, Alvin Volquardsen; parent in laws, Roger and LuAnne Johnson; brother, Jim Leth; step-brother, Jerry Volquardsen and close friend, LouAnn Umbenhower.
