Jarrett "Jerry" Josiah Hare, Jr.

June 26, 1934 - February 24, 2024

LAWRENCE, KS - Jarrett "Jerry" Josiah Hare, Jr., known affectionately as Jerry, passed away on February 24, 2024 from his injuries sustained in a severe fall on February 17, 2024. He would have been 90 this year. He was born on June 26, 1934 in Lincoln, NE to Jarrett Josiah Hare, Sr., and Mary Coleman Hare. Jerry spent his formative years in Grand Island, NE, graduating from Grand Island Senior High in 1952. During his high school years, he was active on the high school basketball and track teams.

In 1956, Jerry graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Business Administration. He was a member of the Nebraska Cornhusker basketball team and the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity.

On December 29, 1956, he married his childhood sweetheart Elizabeth "Liz" Hackman in Grand Island, NE. Liz passed away in 2022.

Jerry embarked on a successful career in sales and marketing management across various industries, including the Chamber of Commerce, food processing equipment, industrial machine tools and insurance. His professional journey took he and his family to Great Bend, KS, Topeka, KS, Greenwood, MS, and Hutchinson, KS.

Upon retirement in 2001, Jerry and Liz settled in Lawrence, KS, where he remained active in community affairs. He devoted his time and efforts to Trinity Episcopal Church, Rotary, gardening, traveling and bicycling. He was proudest of his participations in the Bike Across Kansas Annual Cross State Bicycle Tour. He first rode in 1990 and again in 2004 at the age of 70!

Jerry is survived by the greatest loves of his life, daughter, Sally Hare-Schriner (Dan Schriner), Lawrence, KS; son, Patrick Hare (Frances), Aiken, SC; grandchildren: Nathan Schriner (Sara), Olathe, KS, Andrew Hare (Danielle), Ft. Mill, SC, Alexandra Sneegas (Jason), Lenexa, KS and Phillip Hare, Knoxville, TN; great-grandchildren: Olive and Charlie Sneegas, Robyn Schriner and August "Gus" Hare.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Hare Family Garden, located at Trinity Episcopal Church or make a contribution to your favorite charity in memory of Jerry. All memorials can be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 West 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

Memorial services are being planned for middle of April and will be announced.

Jerry will be fondly remembered for his kindness, his sense of humor, his storytelling and his love of ice cream. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
