Jerome Kosmicki
July 14, 1933 - January 31, 2025
Jerome Kosmicki,91, of Grand Island, NE passed away Friday, January 31, 2025, at the V. A. Medical Center in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Jerome was born in Loup City, Nebraska, on July 14, 1933, to Frank and Cashmiere Kosmicki. The family moved to a farm near Alliance, Nebraska when he was nine years old. Jerome attended St. Agnes Academy. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1952 to 1956. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, as well as the Knights of Columbus.
Jerome married Norma Jean Wyland on November 25, 1958 at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Hemingford, Nebraska. He worked as a meat cutter, carpenter and construction worker. He and Norma had four children and eventually settled in Grand Island, Nebraska. After years of working and saving he was finally able to build his own home, an accomplishment which meant a great deal to him and which is still a blessing to his family. He spent the last part of his working career in construction and maintenance at Monfort Meat Packing/Conagra, retiring in September 2000 after 17 years of dedicated labor.
His family will remember him as a hardworking man, even after retirement, mowing his own lawn and painting his home when he was over 80 years old. He enjoyed listening to country music and watching old Westerns on TV. He was happiest when busy and insisted on taking care of his wife as they grew older together. He revealed the sentimental side of his nature where she was concerned, singing "Roses are Red My Love" over the phone to her when ill health forced them to be separated.
Jerome is survived by his wife, Norma, of Grand Island; three children, Caroline (Robert) Wankmuller of Yuba, CA, Frank (Rhonda) Kosmicki of Carbondale, IL and Marvin Kosmicki of Grand Island, NE, as well as numerous grandchildren and great children. He is also survived by his brothers, Don Kosmicki of Overland, Park, KS, Fr. Raymond M. Kosmicki of Grand Island, NE, David Kosmicki of Greeley, CO, sisters, Alice Dirks of Greeley, CO, Bernice Smith, of Grand Island, NE, and numerous nieces and nephews.
