John Dunn Obituary

John Thomas Dunn, 66, of Grand Island passed away Thursday, May 27, 2021, at CHI Health St. Francis, following a brief battle with cancer.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Adam Snoberger will officiate.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.
John was born on Jan. 21, 1955, in Grand Island to Joseph and Phyllis (Schroeder) Dunn. He was raised in Grand Island, receiving his education from Saint Mary's Catholic School and Grand Island Public Schools, graduating from Grand Island Senior High in 1973. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Platt Duetsche and "The Lodge."
On Aug. 23, 1986, John was united in marriage to Karolina Hinrichs, and they welcomed daughter Kara in 1992. As a talented artist, he made his career in commercial art, while also working as a manufacturing machinist, retiring in 2013. In his spare time, John enjoyed golfing, fishing, Husker athletics and spending time with family.
In the words of his nephew, Jamie Dunn, "He had an amazing ability to make you feel like you were the most important person in the room. Such a great heart and such a kind and talented person."
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Karolina; daughter, Kara (Ryan) Baney; granddaughter, Luella, and a grandson, Harrison, who will arrive later this year. Also surviving are his siblings, Patricia (Terry) Jarolimek, David (Tricia) Dunn, Colleen (Richard) Larsen, Jerry (Brenda) Dunn, Mary (Daniel) Slattery and Jody (Dallan) Maas; sisters-in-law, Barbara Dunn, Leann (Lonnie) Wilsey, Joan Hinrichs, Gayle Hinrichs and Maureen Gillam; and two aunts, Darlene Knoepfel and Sandy Schroeder, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. John also had many friends who will miss his sharp-witted sense of humor.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Phyllis Dunn; parents-in- law, Wilbur and Luella Hinrichs; brothers, William Dunn and Michael Dunn; sister-in-law, Willa and her husband, Virgil Edwards; and brothers-in-law, Fred Hinrichs, Phillip Hinrichs and Donnie Hinrichs.
Memorials are suggested to Heartland Lutheran School or donor's choice.

Johnny was a very talented, artistic and kind fella. Always enjoyed seeing him and his wry grin. I strongly suspect brother Bill Co-opted that grin for many of his character drawings. John's kindnesses quietly showed in many areas of life around G.I. We are all less healthy and happy without the benefit of John's many helpful gifts and talents.
My best to Karolina and the Dunn family.
