Petra Sanchez Obituary



Petra P. 'Pat' Sanchez, 92, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Mark A. Maresh will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church, with a Scripture vigil service at 7. Curran Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Sanchez, and a son, Fermin Sanchez.

Mrs. Sanchez was born April 27, 1916, at Lagos De Moreno, Jalisco, Mexico, to Simon and Andrea (Rodriguez) Pedroza.

Survivors of the immediate family include a son and daughter-in-law, Francisco and Benita Rosas of Grand Island; a daughter, Cathy Aldana of Grand Island; a brother and sister-in-law, Augie and Celia Pedroza of Grand Island.

Additional survivors include 14 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Pat moved to United States with her parents as a young child. She attended school in Horton, Kan., before returning to Mexico. She married Ramon Rosas in 1933 at Mexico. They lived in Mexico. She married Jose L. Sanchez in 1939 at Mexico. The family moved to Grand Island in 1968. She was employed in the nursing home industry working for several businesses in the community beginning in housekeeping and retiring as a nurse's aid in 1991. Mr. Sanchez died in 1997.

She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and St. Mary's Cathedral and volunteered at the Grand Generation Center for many years.

She loved family, cooking for them, and spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She spent many hours crocheting and was a lover of animals especially her dog, Chacha. She enjoyed flower gardening and wrestling.

Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a great-granddaughter, Haley Hiatt; and two brothers and two sisters.
