Ruby Spencer Obituary
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Evangelical Free Church in Central City, with the Rev. Scott Johnson officiating. Burial will in the Central City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Mrs. Spencer was born on Feb. 23, 1924, in Polk to Walter and Esther (Ehn) Olson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Loyde Spencer, and a son, Alan Spencer, in 2007.
Survivors of the immediate family include two daughters, Jeanie and Dennis Ersch of Lincoln and Rachel "Connie" Angel of Fort Collins, Colo.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Donna Spencer of Windsor, Colo., and Dennis and Jill Spencer of Idaho Falls, Idaho; a sister, Rosaline Huffman of Grand Island; a brother and sister-in-law, Rodney and Lois Olson of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She grew up in Polk and graduated from Polk High School. After high school, Ruby moved to Central City and worked at Jim's Market. On April 28, 1946, Ruby Olson and Loyde Spencer were united in marriage. They lived in Central City until 1959, when they moved to California. Ruby worked for Newberry's Department Store as a department manager. In 1963, they moved to Fort Collins, Colo., where Ruby continued her work in retail at Hested's Department Store. They returned to live in Central City in 1973. Loyde died on May 5, 1977. After her husband's death, Ruby went to work for the Central City Public Schools as the cafeteria manager. She retired in 1994 and continued living in Central City until 2009 when she moved to Lincoln to live with her daughter.
Ruby was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Central City where she belonged to prayer group and bible study. She enjoyed playing cards and dominos and she loved to watch baseball.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Raymond and Richard Olson; and one sister, Rachel Lampshire.
