Clifton Lewis Obituary

Lewis, Clifton Jay

Clifton Jay Lewis, 60, of Arden, NC, formerly of Ithaca, NY, went to dwell in Heaven on Monday, May 21st, 2012 at his home. He was born September 10th, 1951 in Valley, PA to the late Roscoe Lewis and Helen Hensley Lewis Clutter. Mr. Lewis attended Erwin High School in Asheville, NC after which he began a long career in carpentry over the course of which he built several houses in Buncombe County. He later relocated in Ithaca, NY where he worked for Roger and Sue Dennis at the Hudson Heights Apartments for thirty-five years. He finally returned home to Buncombe County to be near his family. Mr. Lewis enjoyed being around people and was known for his infectious laugh. He had a passion for music, and was a formidable guitarist, preferring the twelve-string, and was a song writer. He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters, Corinna Lynn Lewis, Amanda Gale Hughes and Laura Lee Hopper; a son, C.J. Lewis, Jr.; his former spouse and mother of his daughters, Barbara Gentry; six grandchildren, Dakota Williams, Hogan Lewis, Eli Zane Anderson, Dylan Hughes, Austyn Hughes, Tevin Greene and his "almost granddaughter", Kayla Montgomery; three sisters, Mary Ball, Linda Jenkins and Geraldine Littrell; three nieces, four nephews and several family members in Pennsylvania. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 2nd, from noon until 5:00 PM at Lake Julian in Arden, NC. He will be forever loved and missed by many.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. Loss of a loved one is painful but it allows you to appreciate and recognize that the most important things in life aren't things but the people that we are blessed with every day of our lives and the memories we create while they are here.
Take care and god bless.........

Clif you were, are and always will be a wonderful man. You left behind 4 great kids that will love and miss you always. I know your playing that guitar of yours in heaven and I'm sure you already got your wings and are hovering over your loved ones even now. Have always cared for you and yes probably always will for what you have given me. You are missed by so many.
Love, Heidi

...and the Grand Canyon....and all kinds of beautiful places! But none compare to the beautiful place you're in now.

A few more things about Cliff. His heart knew nothing but to give. Through listening he taught others how to listen. And through all the muck and daily grind, he knew that in the end...life is just funny. Here's to his family and here is to Mr. Lewis. Thank you for everything, sir.

Dear ole dad, i miss you so much!!! We had so much more times to share together and so many more memories to make! As you would of said "We got jipped!". I thank you so much for being my Dad, spending time with me when i know you could of been working and teaching me what you did! I was always proud to be your "eldest daughter" and still will be! I picture you and pa-paw having alot to talk about and it makes me smile! I never liked it when you gave me the silent treatment when you were upset with me or disappointed in something I had done so can you please let me hear you or just know some how
that you are watching over me! I wouldnt mind some of your "shananagans" about now! You will forever be loved and missed!!!!!!

My memories of Uncle Clif are of playing horseshoes and eating watermelon on a sweltering hot Georgia summer afternoon. That may not sound very pleasant to most folks but it was Good Times in my memory. Rest in Peace Uncle Clif.

"Tell Laura I Love Her" was a song that my dad sang to me when I would go to visit him in Ithaca, NY. I would laugh when he would sing it. I am thankful we had those times together as they mean so much now that I look back. I will make sure to take extra good care of my sisters, Momma, and my family...I know that's something he would want. Thanks you for the memories, Dad! I love you, Your Laura Lee

Corinna, Mandie, and Laura and family, I can not imagine the lost you feel as I was devastated with the news that he had passed. The only thing that gave me a little peace, is that Clif was HOME in North Carolina. He was with no doubt the love of my life, and will always be in my heart. Much love at this time of sadness. Thinking of you all, take care, Sis "Laurie"
