Daniel Achilles Obituary
Daniel Achilles, 52, of 251 Aiken Road, Trumansburg, NY passed away Friday, September 5, 2008 at the Cayuga Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Dan was the son of the late William and Dawn Chilson Achilles.
Dan and his wife Diane own and operate the Valley Korners, Dan's Fuel Service and D.L. Achilles Trucking in Enfield.
Dan was a loving husband and father and always there with a helping hand for anybody.
Survivors include his wife Diane Berggren Achilles and sons, David and Dennis Achilles all of Trumansburg; his in-laws, Charlie and Helen Berggren, Eddie (Karen) Berggren and Kevin (Brandee) Berggren; also brothers, Billy (Kate), Tim (Theresa) and Ted (Kim) Achilles and one sister, Penny Jo Achilles. In addition, several nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Tuesday from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. at Bangs Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Dan's memory may be made to the First Baptist Church of Enfield, 162 Enfield Main Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850.

We just found out, and am so sorry to hear this. Danny was like a father to me. We will always cherish the memories when you all came to the beach to see us. I have many fond memories of Danny. He was a great man! We love you all like family!

Dear Diane & Family,
I was taken back when Jerry called about Danny. You have my deepest sympathy; know Danny is home and at peace.
I know we have known each other than the annual stop in cousin that says hi when she is home; you and the boys are in my thoughts and prayers.
I'm thankful for the nice visit we had several months ago; after being home and seeing everyone I have been remembering growing up together in the big farm house, the fun, chores, sledding across Applegate Rd from the top of the hill (Danny always talked about that day). I have great childhood memories, Danny& Billy were great cousins to pull pranks with; one Halloween comes to mind.
One thing I have experienced lately from loosing family members is we do not get to know our loved ones as individuals, we know and love them as our family, we learn a lot about their character during this sad time. I can see from reading these notes Danny was a proud family man who lived the "Achilles" legacy of always being there to lend a hand to a friend or stranger.

My very deepest sympathy and prayers for all of you. I grew up with Danny and the gang that hung out at Dawns on the corner. I just lost my mom a little over a month ago. And my father just a few years before. My best strength was the love and support I received by so many people that knew and loved the one we lost. I hope that also works for you.
