Daniel E. Spencer, 56, of Ithaca, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at the Cayuga Medical Center. Dan was born in Ithaca and was a graduate of Ithaca High School. He was currently a supervisor with the City of Ithaca Department of Public Works where he had worked for the past 36 years. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed watching NASCAR and golf. He was the Clark Griswold of his Fall Creek neighborhood for his love of lighting up his home during the holidays. His family and many friends will miss his wonderfully dry sense of humor. Dan is survived by his wife of 35 years, Elicia Armstrong Spencer; his daughter and son in law, Katie and Scott Arthur and his grandchildren, Madison and Zachary Arthur who were the light of his life. He is also survived by his sister, Janice (Gerry Angel) Thornton; his aunt, Margaret Amato; mother in law, Marian Lane; father in law, Richard Armstrong; sisters in law, Elaine Armstrong Mays (Robert) and Heather Armstrong Hudson (Kevin); his nephews, Mark Pierce, Christopher Jolly, Bryan Jolly and Wade Hudson; and his nieces, Wendy Pierce-Carlisle and Brittany Flexman. Dan was predeceased by his mother, Julia Spencer. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 13, 2014 at 11 a.m. the Bangs Funeral with Pastor Dale Ford officiating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2014 from noon until 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
