Dorothy Arnold Obituary

DOROTHY
JOSEPHINE EVERTTS ARNOLD
ITHACA - Dorothy Josephine Evertts Arnold, age 98, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2008, at Kendal at Ithaca. She was born on August 5, 1909 in Binghamton, NY, the daughter of Olney W. and Edna Haskell Evertts.
She attended Elmira schools and the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester. On October 18, 1930, she married Edward Frank Arnold, a singer at Franklin Street Presbyterian Church of Elmira where she held her first Organist position. She later became Organist at her home church, North Presbyterian, then Minister of Music at First Baptist Church until moving to Ithaca in 1959. While in Elmira she was active in the Thursday Morning Musicales and in church organizations, and was accompanist for The Kiwanis Quartet, while raising two sons and helping care for her grandmother, Ada Haskell. In Ithaca she was Organist for several years at the First Congregational Church, then moved to the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as Organist for nearly 30 years. During this time she was active in the PEO Sisterhood, in church-related groups, and community service. She was a member of the Ithaca Yacht Club, Ithaca Country Club, and Friends of Ithaca College. She also assisted her husband in the establishment and management of the Arnold Printing Corporation, which they sold in 1976, but which continues under their name.
She is survived by two sons and their wives, Dean E. Arnold (Juliet) of State College, PA, and David E. Arnold (Susan) of Paoli, PA. Also two granddaughters, Margaret A. Higgins (Mark) of State College, PA, and Kimberly A. Amaral (Stephen) of Sackets Harbor, NY; a grandson, Douglas E. Arnold (Jennifer) of West Chester, PA; two step granddaughters, Lara K. Myers of Honolulu, HI, and Tamara M. Schulz (James) of Mechanicsburg, PA; three great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward E. Arnold; a grandson, David E. Arnold; and her brother, Richard H. Evertts.

Dear Dean & Julie; Dave & Susan,
It was a complete joy to know your Mother; She was a wonderful woman with so many sotries she told me about the "old days", the trips that she took, her boys when they were young. I don't think she ever had a harsh word to say about anyone...She would sit and listen to what was going on around her then later in her room she would tell me exactly what her opinion was after we returned to her room from talking with the group of women. I enjoyed all the time we were able to spend with each other. I wish you all, God's blessings!

Dear Dave and Sue, I am sorry to hear Dorothy is gone. She was one of the women who nurtured me in church, and with Helene, who taught me the finer things of wifehood. Please know that I will miss her and pray her spirit finds peace.

Dave, My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. She was truly a wonderful lady and a great "mom" to everyone. May she rest in peace with the knowledge that she was loved by all.
