So sorry to hear of Mr. Kostrub's passing. I would check him out every Saturday on his adventures to the Dollar General. What a kind hearted soul. He will be missed.

I'm so sorry to hear the news of Ernie. We were good friends growing up in Fall Creek and were the heart of our basketball team there. We didn't win much but had a lot of fun.

Rest in peace, Ernie. You were one of my favorite conversationalists at the Rongovian Embassy to the U.S.A.

I met Ernie about 15+ years ago at Tim's Barber Shop in Trumansburg. We'd sit there Saturday mornings to chat with Tim and the patrons, often about sports and his favorite teams, Mets, Giants, Syracuse, and Cornell. This continued after Tim retired and Sarah opened Short's Barber Shop. When Ernie started to have difficulty walking, I began to pick him up at his apartment, first on Pease Street and then at Juniper Manor, and drive us to the shop so that we could continue our Saturday morning ritual of coffee, donuts and community conversations. Afterward, we'd go to Dollar General so that he could pick up a few of his favorites: milk, Chips Ahoy cookies, potato chips, and ice cream. During the warmer summer days, we'd sit on the bench outside the shop after closing, watching the world go by on Main Street. Ernie always liked a parade and would often enjoy both in Trumansburg: Memorial Day and Firemen's.
We are all going to miss him dearly.

Like the rest of Tburg, first met Ernie at Kostrub's. Got to know and became good friends when I would give him rides into Cornell. Lots of good stories and memories. RIP Ernie. You will be missed.

This is truly sad news. Such a sweet guy. He accepted me when I first came to T-burg long ago. What a sports fan he was. When I hear the names Jets and Mets I always think of Ernie the K. My daughter Jessica worked at the luncheonette during high school.

RIP Ernie, fond memories to say the least. You can hardly say you grew up in Tburg and didn't go into Kostrub's. I remember going in to get the latest issue of MAD magazine, or an RC cola after the boy scout meetings.....

I was in school with Ernie and worked with him at Cornell. He was down to earth and I always enjoyed our conversations. Sorry for his passing. I am out of town for his funeral but send my sympathy to everyone.

Ernie was wonderful--I met him at the Ithaca Sports Club in the '90's before I moved away from Ithaca. He was such a nice man to visit with and I am sorry for your loss.

My cherished memories of growing up in T-burg would not be complete without Ernie's friendly face behind the counter at the store. My condolences to the family.
