George Hartman Obituary

GEORGE R. HARTMAN
ITHACA - George R. Hartman, 93, formerly of Elm St., Ithaca, died Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at the Cayuga Medical Center. He was born in Maine, NY, son of the late Robert and Effy Gates Hartman.
George served with the United States Army during World War II and was retired from the Tompkins County Hospital, where he had worked as a plumber and steamfitter. He had previously worked at G.L.F.
George is survived by his wife of 68 years, Virginia Burley Hartman; his son and daughter-in-law, Geoffrey and Mary Hartman of Spencer; his daughter, Suzanne Stroman of Ithaca; grandchildren, Debbie Hartman Doane, Joan Chandler, Chris Stroman, and Heather Michael; and great-grandchildren, Chad Jayne, Randall Lee Michael, and Carleigh Stroman. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Minturn of Ithaca; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his grandson, Randy Stroman; great-granddaughter, Krista Jayne; and his brother, Fred Hartman.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Bangs Funeral Home with Rev. Glen Richard officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. Burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery will be delayed. Donations in George's memory may be made to Foodnet - Meals on Wheels, 2422 N. Triphammer Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850.

Always enjoyed visiting George and Virginia when I visited my sister, Barbara, in Ithaca. He was a "happy fella" and we shared good memories and family stories. He will be missed! You are in my thoughts and prayers.
