Geri Stevenson Obituary

GERI STEVENSON
TRUMANSBURG - Geri Stevenson, of 5316 Pine Ridge Rd., Trumansburg, passed away after a brief illness at Cayuga Medical Center on Monday, September 22, 2008, at the age of 67.
Born in Manhattan on June 24, 1941, Geri was the daughter of Helen Blumenstetter Oppel of Trumansburg, and the late John Tenet.
Geri had been employed at Blue Cross/Blue Shield (Syracuse) and more recently in the billing office at Cayuga Medical Center. A kind and compassionate soul, she established and maintained many friendships over the years. Geri was a member of the St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church in Ithaca. She enjoyed camping, horseback riding, playing bridge, cheering for Rusty Wallace during NASCAR races, and riding the Gold Wing motorcycle with her husband, Keith. For solitude, Geri could often be found curled up with a good book or working the green-thumb magic in her magnificent flower garden. She also loved country music with a passion.
Geri is survived by her husband, Keith Stevenson of Trumansburg; two sons, James (Tina) Amalfitano of Shirley and Tony (Larraine) Amalfitano of Baldwinsville; two step-daughters, whom she embraced as her own, Rebecca (Gorka) Stevenson-Angulo of Madrid, Spain and Deirdre Stevenson of Boston, MA; five grandchildren, Luke Amalfitano, Sarah Dziedzic, Jon Dziedzic, Alexia Angulo and Nicholas Angulo; her mother, Helen T. Oppel of Trumansburg; and two half-brothers, George (Stephanie) Tenet of Maryland and William (Alice) Tenet of Manhassett, Long Island, NY.
The family will be present to receive friends on Friday, September 26, 2008, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, at the First Baptist Church, 4443 East Seneca Rd., Trumansburg, with the Rev. Stephen Lilley officiating. Prayers of Committal will follow at Grove Cemetery, Trumansburg. Immediately following the Prayers of Committal, a reception will be held at the Ulysses Historical Society, 39 South St., Trumansburg.
In keeping with Geri's deep-seated love of nature and wildlife, the family asks those considering a contribution in Geri's memory to kindly consider Defenders of Wildlife, P.O. Box 1553, Merrifield, VA 22116-1553. Contributions may also be directed to the Ulysses Historical Society, P.O. Box 455, Trumansburg, NY 14886.
The family has entrusted arrangements to the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg. 1-888-534-5446. www.ness-sibley.com.

Dear Geri ..... you left us so much quicker than expected .... never had time to let you know how much you were loved. We will miss all the little thoughtful things you did and the regular phone calls to keep in touch even when we were in Florida.
We had so much in common ... our love of motorcycling, animals, flowers, and Rusty Wallace. Even though you weren't here to celebrate Holly's 11th birthday today, we remembered and gave her a gift. Your friends Sharon & Ed

I am sorry to hear that Geri has passed. We had thought that she had longer and I didnt get to visit with her before she did. Now she is up in heaven doing what she loves best. Being outdoors. Now she is no longer in pain. I remember Geri and her husband Keith at my Aunts 60th birthday party last year. We all had a great time.
Everyone will miss you.

Keith and all of Geri's family,

I came to know Geri through the Bridge Buddies. We shared a love of bridge and flowers. She was a great comfort to me when I lost my husband and then my son. Know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. She will be sorely missed.

To Keith and Geri's family, only God knows why it was his timing to call her home. While we miss her there are alot of people in heaven that greeted her with open arms. She made a place in our hearts that will never be taken away from us. May you keep God close to you in the days coming. Love you. Kathy Eldred

Geri ... my friend ... will never forget the day we met when you asked about the wolf photo on my sweatshirt and I told you about my working with the wolves here in Michigan's Upper Penninsula ... your love of them is what brought us together and was always an important aspect of our friendship/our times together ... a good thing to remember.
So MANY things to thank you for but mostly just for being who you were .. you left your 'pawprint' in my heart. I'll miss ya, Ger!!!

Always,
