I never actually met Greg, but have been a huge fan of his TED Talk and have shared it with many of my own clients and resilience classes over the years. I'm sure he has touched many more lives than he ever realized. His legacy of kindness, thoughtfulness, and resilience will live on. Blessings, love, and peace to all of his friends and family.

Greg and I started working at Cornell around the same time. During our first conversation, we realized we had a few connections; he grew up in Illinois, I grew up in Missouri and we had both somehow found our way to Ithaca. My heart goes out to his wife Michelle, his mother and his beautiful children. As a crisis manager at Cornell, I called Greg a lot to get advice and guidance on crisis cases and no matter how many times I called, he was always patient, kind and supportive-a true professional. I hope you find peace Greg; you will not be forgotten.

They always say your mark in life should be whether or not you made a difference in someones life. I can say without doubt that Greg made a difference in many peoples lives. He influenced me to be a better person. His sunday school lessons did not go in vain.... His smile was infectious as was his personality. Michelle, Jessica and I love you and your family and we love Greg. While he has left us... he has left a mark on us. Greg touched so many in many different ways - us included. We miss our days in Hattiesburg laughing with you guys. I know Jesus is smiling as he welcomes an angel to his fold. We will miss him, but we were so glad we had him touch our lives. Much love from the Leverettes

I offer my most sincere condolences to Michelle and the kids and the rest of Gregs family and friends at this time of loss. If my feelings are so indescribable, I cannot imagine yours. I am so sorry.
I met Greg when he came to Cornell to become the Counseling Director and served with him on the Steering committee for the Health Services. Both his personality and physical presence could fill a room. He was a fine speaker who, professionally, was dedicated to helping students improve their mental health. He spoke locally and nationally about suicide prevention.
At College health meetings in pre-Katrina New Orleans and in Orlando we spent a good deal of time together. We laughed and had fun. There was an episode during a session given by a professional comedian about improvisation that involved me to which Greg liked to refer. It would take too long to tell you about, but it always made Greg and me chuckle.
Greg loved his family immediate and extended and enjoyed the many successes of his kids. He loved spending time with them at home and on vacations out of the area. He loved getting together with friends and their families from his pre-Ithaca days as well. I spoke to him shortly after he took the U. Penn. position and he was excited to dive in and hope to help them make a lot of the changes that he helped bring about in mental health care at Cornell. He knew it would be difficult to be away from his family but figured frequent weekend trips to Ithaca would help.
He knew a lot more about resilience and suicidality than the vast majority of those of us in healthcare both physical and mental healthcare. His death points out to me that especially for those who deal with the darknesses in peoples minds and help those people to cope with them, sometimes absorb a lot of the darkness themselves. We need to find better ways to help those counselors and clinicians channel that darkness out of their own souls so that it does not overwhelm them.
I was not the wordsmith of our Steering group. I am sure Sharon D. could do a far better job that I in expressing these thoughts, but they are what I have at this terrible time. Hug one another and tell those close to you how important they are in your life. Doctors orders.

Words seem small and inadequate to express the grief and loss I feel over Gregs death. I have worked at CAPS at Penn since 2003, and my heart is set on suicide prevention. Although I only knew Greg personally for a short time, his impact was immense. Greg was one of the champions for campus mental health and suicide prevention. His passing highlights the challenges and critical unmet need in this field. Our greatest monument to Gregs life would be to continue the journey of fighting this deadly disease.
Greg is in my heart and you are in my prayers,

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Dr. Eells. He was my favorite professor in my undergraduate studies and I was also privileged to work for him as a graduate student counselor when he was director of counseling services at USM in Hattiesburg, MS. He was a kind, smart, and eloquent man that seemed to always have a smile on his face ready to help anyone in need. I have been in deep thought and prayer for his loved ones especially his wife and children whom he often spoke of so lovingly. I will keep him in my memories and prayers always.

Greg was a leader in College Mental Health who I had the honor to know when I was brand new to college mental health. The field would not be where it is today, providing access to so many students in need of mental health treatment, without the work of Dr. Eells. His energy and commitment to his work was inspiring to me and to others. He was instrumental in growing the mental health section of the American College Health Association. He will be missed by so many. With deepest sympathy,

I met Greg when he was new to the counseling center at the University of Southern Mississippi. I was in my last year of doctoral study in the counseling psychology program. After I finished, we kept in touch occasionally. With my dissertation chair, he and I published an article based on my dissertation. When both of us attended NASPA, we would grab coffee together and catch up. We messaged occasionally through LinkedIn. I always appreciated the wisdom and humor of his insights. Rare as our communications were, they were highly valued, and I already miss him, so I'm holding everyone who loves him in my heart and prayers.
