Harold Ball Obituary

Ball, Harold B., Jr.

Interlaken: Harold B. Ball, Sr., of 3692 Halls Corners Rd., Interlaken, passed away at home unexpectedly on Saturday, July 21, 2012, at the age of 86. Born on June 29, 1926 on the family's Halls Corners farm in Interlaken, Harold was the son of George and Louise (Sherwood) Ball. A farmer at heart, Harold spent a lifetime caring for the land both on his own farm and following retirement he assisted two neighbor farmers with their operations. Entering the US Army in 1954, Harold proudly served during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Germany and received an Honorable Discharge on November 1, 1956. He enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycle, cutting wood and hanging with the boys (Donald and George). It was difficult to differentiate friends from family as they were one and the same to Harold. His door was always open and if someone was in need, Harold was the first in line to give whatever he had to help. A man who understood unconditional love, he was, above all else, dedicated and loyal to family and friends. His empty chair and unused coffee cup down at Jay's will weigh heavy on his pals. Memories of Harold will forever have a warm place in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by a grandson, Lukas Nathaniel Ball; two brothers, George A. and Donald P. Ball; and a niece, Brenda Lee Niver. He is survived his wife, CarolLee (Niver) Ball of Interlaken; one daughter, Angela Ball of Ithaca; one son, Harold B. Ball, Jr. "Fuzz" (Nicole) of Ithaca; a nephew who was like a son, Brian Niver of Romulus; two grandchildren, Hannah Faith Lecoq of Ithaca and Haiden Ball of Ithaca; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Niver of Ithaca; longtime family friends, Michael Welsh and Chris Gardner; a close cousin, Helen Purvis; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The family will be present to receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2012, at the First Baptist Church, 4443 Seneca Rd., Trumansburg. A Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 a.m., at the church, on Saturday with the Rev. Ralph Selin officiating. Members of the Trumansburg American Legion Post #770 and the US Army Honors Team will perform a Military Honors Tribute at the church immediately following the service. Those who wish to remember Harold in the form of a contribution are asked to kindly consider your local fire department. The family have entrusted arrangements to the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg. 1-888-534-5446. www.ness-sibley.com.
