I learned Russian from him at IHS. I worked in Siberia for a year and in Morocco where I learned French and went to Japan later, where I still live. Harry tried learning Japanese in the 1980s but thought it was too hard. I still learn it.
Harry also taught Italian at BOCES. He liked German the best but since IHS had other German teachers in the 1980s, he taught Russian, French and Spanish.
He must have known seven languages.
He had a pet parrot called Boris. He taught Boris German or Russian. One day he left a window open and Boris flew away.

So sorry to hear of Mr. Weymers passing. I was also a student in Spanish and found his class the most useful class taken that helped spur my love of travel. His teachings clicked when I later did studies in Central America and his courses helped me navigate and converse. He truly was an amazing man and created quite the legacy, he will be missed.

Harry was a gem.. He taught Spanish in which I was a student and later in years was an everyday customer at the Home Dairy. A great person and will be very missed..

Mr. Weymer was one of my favorite teachers. He was my Spanish teacher in 9th and 10th grade (along with Ms. Goldfarb). I thought it to be interesting to have this tall white man to teach Spanish, but he did it! And he did it well. And we all enjoyed him. He made us laugh at his jokes. He had a way with connecting with the students. We really loved him - maybe not so much the content, but HE made the difference. He was willing to help you learn and went far above and beyond to stay after. I had a lot of respect for him.
Farewell Mr. Weymer.
No te olvidare.
Rest In Peace.

I have known Harry for over 50 years and went to Grace Lutheran Day school and served in the Boy Scouts together. I truly cherished our friendship and missed Harry and wish he was still with us. I missed our conversations.
