Jackie, Derek, and Hollie—Though we were aware that Hollis had been very sick for quite some time, it was still a shock to see his name in the obituary column in yesterday’s Ithaca Journal. Our hearts and prayers go out to you and all your family and friends.
I remember when our family was first getting established on Peruville Road we prayed for a mechanic nearby who was honest and knew what he was doing. God sent Hollis. From the very beginning I was impressed with his honesty and his lack of arrogance. As time went on I learned to trust him thoroughly as a mechanic and as a friend. Soon our families became friends, not just neighbors. When I brought a problem to Hollis, his reply was usually, “No problem.” When I went to pick up the car and asked him what I owed, he would often say something like, “Mmm, how’s twenty bucks?” Other times he would say, “Try it for awhile. See how it works.”
Jackie, I know you and your family have embraced Jesus and His Word. We have, also. I know He has seen you through many tough times in recent years. That means that He has chosen you and your family to show His Love to the world. Let me say that regardless of what the politicians are saying, America is still alive and healthy and it is precisely because of families like yours that it will remain so.
Hollie, Howard, and Dustin. You are chosen to carry on the family traditions of your parents by honoring the sacrifices of those before you and trusting the One who gave us life to see us through the hard times and the good in days to come.
Derek, I know how close you and your Dad have always been. You are a good man largely because of the influence and tender, loving care of your Mom and Dad. Now your Dad is gone—but not forever. We’ll see him again and there will be a great reunion in heaven. Your family and my family will be neighbors again, with no more sorrow and no more tears. Until then I have confidence that you will continue to be a source of strength and comfort to your Mom.
To all of you, “Look up. Have faith in the God of our future. Face each day knowing that the best is yet to be.”
With His Love and ours,
Ray and Margaret Wiiki
