Jerald Clark Obituary

Clark, Jerald G. "Jerry" Clark

Jerald G. "Jerry" Clark, age 39, lifetime resident of Trumansburg, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Cayuga Medical Center. Jerry was born on September 25, 1976, the son of John G. "Jack" and Linda (Kline) Clark. He graduated from Trumansburg High School in 1995. Jerry had worked at Schuyler Hospital and most recently at Lincare in Ithaca. At the age of 18, Jerry joined the Trumansburg Fire Department and had been a very active member throughout his 21 years of membership, as both a fireman and an EMT. He also served as Quartermaster in the Trumansburg Fire Company. Jerry had been a supporting member of the Sons of The American Legion at Post 770 in Trumansburg for the last 13 years, and had served as past Commander of the SAL. For all those who met Jerry, they will remember him for his kind heart and selfless personality. He was the true embodiment of a "Good Samaritan"; he never hesitated to help someone in need. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and the community in which he served. He is survived by his wife, Marti Jo Smith and his beloved children, Brianna and Meghan Clark and Ashley and Kevin Whitaker who he loved and thought of as his own; his father, Jack (Tanna) Clark of Lansing; his mother and father in law, Dawn and Don Smith of Trumansburg; his siblings, Stacey Smith of Jacksonville, FL, Craig Sims of Tucson, AZ and Michael (Kathy) Harris of Trumansburg; and grandmother, Marion Kline of Crystal River, FL; and by his aunts and uncles; Nancy (Ron) Bowers of Trumansburg, David (Sandy) Kline of Florida, Robert (Deb) Kline of Florida, Lisa Kline of California, Theodore (Betty) Clark of Ohio, Robert (Nancy) Clark of Trumansburg, Sharon (Gene) Paneccasio of Florida, Karen Clark of Trumansburg, Richard (Cecile) Clark of Georgia, several nieces and nephews and numerous cousins. Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Clark; by his brother in law; James "Jamie" Smith and his grandmother, Freda Clark. The family will receive friends from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church, 5 Bradley Street in Trumansburg. A funeral service will then follow at 1:00pm officiated by Rev. Timothy Hamilton and prayers of committal will be held at Jones Cemetery in Trumansburg. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Brianna and Meghan Clark Memorial Fund, c/o Tompkins County Trust Company, PO Box 702, Trumansburg, NY 14886 or to either the Trumansburg American Legion or the Trumansburg Fire Department. I first met Jerry when he was 11 or 12 at Trumansburg Middle School when he asked if he could work in the School Library. Our friendship has continued to now as I saw him often in the community. He was the friendly face that loaded me into the ambulance when I broke my leg. He would always say Hi at the grocery store or the Legion dinners. He also has helped me at Lincare over the years with supplies. He will be missed!
