Margaret Hein Obituary

MARGARET DEGROFF HEIN
Margaret DeGroff Hein of Ithaca died October 15th at Cayuga Medical Center after a brief illness.
She was much loved by her children: James DeGroff (Susan) and Christine Ogden (John), children of William Frimmel, deceased; Charles DeGroff (Deb) and Jackie Dienstag (Jerry), children of Harold DeGroff. She was also predeceased by husband Charles Hein and long time companion, Joe Durling. She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Carolyn, Cynthia, Jeff, David, Curtis, Eric, Peter, Morgan and Isabelle as well as her nine great-grandchildren.
Born in Hanover, Germany in 1914, she came to the U.S. at age 12 and settled with her parents in Bayonne, NJ. After attending secretarial college, she started her career as an executive secretary in NYC at Texaco Oil Co. and TWA. She moved with her husband Harold DeGroff and children to Dryden in 1954 and continued her career at Agway, Morse Chain and Cornell. Marge loved to be with children, enjoyed sewing, was an avid bird watcher and reader, and sang for many years with the Cayuga Chimes.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 1 at 2:00 p.m. at the Varna United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made her name to Gadabout of Tompkins County, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology or the Varna United Methodist Church.
