Marion VanLaningham Obituary

MARION VANLANINGHAM
SAUQUOIT, NY - Marion VanLaningham, age 88, of Sauquoit, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica. She was born in DeSmit, SD on November 23, 1919, a daughter of the late Vance and Nellie (Else) Crane. At one time Marion had been wed to Samuel Dayton VanLaningham.
She began her work career as a dental assistant, later accepting a position in California as a "Rosie the Riveter" during WWII. Lastly, Marion held a position with the U.S. Postal Service in the town of Paris as a clerk, where she worked for over ten years. She was a life member of Beta Ligma Phi and an active member of Three Steeples United Church in Paris, NY.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law: Donna and Frederick North of TX, Linda Conde of Sauquoit; a son: Kurt VanLaningham of TX; her grandchildren: Erica McGrew, Robert North, Jennifer VanLaningham, John and Cindy VanLaningham, Andria and Kyle Black, Stephanie Demma, Joseph Conde, Brittany VanLaningham, Mallory VanLaningham and Dayton VanLaningham; 18 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister: Ethelyn Maxwell and her companion, Earl Kaiser, both of Ithaca, NY; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was pre-deceased by her son, John A. VanLaningham; and two brothers, Eugene and Merwyn Crane.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St., Sauquoit, NY. Marion's funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon at 1:00, immediately following visitation, with the Rev. Edward Townsend officiating. Interment will take place privately in Hillcrest Cemetery in Paris, NY.
