DR. MORRIS I. GROSSMAN
ITHACA - Dr. Morris I. Grossman, devoted father, grandfather and husband, passed away on January 5, 2005. Dr. Grossman resided at McGraw House in Ithaca, NY, for the last eight years. He was predeceased by his loving wife, May.Born in Providence, RI, in 1914, Morrie spent his childhood in Jacksonville, FL, and Brooklyn, NY. He earned a Doctorate of Optometry from Ohio State University in 1938 and a second Doctorate from Massachusetts College of Optometry in 1965.Morrie married his sweetheart, May Good, in 1942. Shortly after, they moved to Atlantic City, NJ, where he served as an army hospital optometrist in World War II. Following the war, Morrie and May relocated to Geneva, NY, where they raised a family and he practiced optometry for thirty-five years. Morrie's lifelong commitment to his community included his service on zoning and planning committies, the Lions and Rotary Clubs, the Optometric Association, the Community Chest and the USO. Morrie took pride in being a founding member and former president of Temple Beth-El in Geneva.Morrie was an avid fan of the Yankees and the Ohio State Buckeyes' athletic teams. He always entertained his friends and family with his hilarious jokes and delighted them with exciting stories from his interesting life.Morrie is survived by his daughter, Ilene Grossman-Arciaga; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Joan Grossman; and grandsons, Mark Arciaga and Jesse Grossman.Services will be held on Friday, January 7, at 1:00 p.m. at Bangs Funeral Home, 209 West Green Street, Ithaca, NY, with Rabbi Glass officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to Rick and Joan Grossman's home at 102 Park Street, Ithaca, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. following interment. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the TC3 Foundation Grossman/Weinberg Memorial Fund (Tompkins Cortland Community College, Dryden, NY 13053.)
