I never knew Dick, but I do know Bryan and George. After reading his obituary I am sorry to have never met this remarkable man who sounds very similar to my mother in his interests. My condolences to the family and to all his friends, colleagues, and students.

A renowned scholar, a great teacher, but probably most characteristically, a kind man. In a single word, a true mensch. We'll miss you, Dick.
