ROSE NOVAK ZUPP
ATHENS, PA - Rose Novak Zupp, age 92, of Chemung View Apartments, Athens, PA, and formerly of 206 W. Lockhart St., Sayre, PA, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2005, at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA.Born January 13, 1913 in Newfield, NY, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Frances Ridl Novak. In earlier years, Rose was employed by Remington Rand in Elmira, NY, and later by the Stroehmans Bakery Thrift Store in Sayre. On April 25, 1942, she married Daniel S. Zupp at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, Elmira, NY, who preceded her in death on December 21, 1996. Rose was a member of the Ascension of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church, Sayre, a member of its former St. Catherine's Club, and the Premysl Otakar Czech Club in Newfield, NY.Surviving are her dear sister, Frances Novak Roberts of St. Augustine, FL; two brothers-in-law, Jerry Bezdek of Horseheads, NY, George Zupp of Sayre, PA; sister-in-law, Sue Carter of Montana. She was a loving aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph, Charles, William, Amos and Rudy Novak; a sister, Laura Bezdek; and sisters-in-law, Mamie Zupp and Lena Strayves.The family wishes to thank Carol Wandel, Trudy Smith, Ralph Roloson, Sheila Zulkowski, and Dr. Wattoo and Rev. Paul Guthrie for their gentle care of Rose.A Panikhida service will be held Saturday, February 19, 2005, at 9:30 a.m. at the Alteri-Bowen Funeral Home, 314 Desmond St., Sayre, followed by a Mass of the Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. at the Ascension of Our Lord Ukrainian Church, N. Higgins Ave., Sayre, PA, with the Rev. Paul Guthrie as celebrant. The family will receive friends Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Alteri-Bowen Funeral Home, 314 Desmond St., Sayre, PA. Interment will be in the Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Athens Twp., PA. A Panikhida service will be held Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, it was Rose's request that memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Ascension of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church, N. Higgins Ave., Sayre, PA, or to Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 East Corning Road, Corning, NY 14830.
