VESTA TRAVIS HILL
SOUTHPORT, NC - Mrs. Vesta Travis Hill, R.D., passed away March 20, 2003, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center in Wilmington, NC, after a brief illness. She was born in Thomasville, GA, on August 8, 1937 to the late Dr. and Mrs. Bernard V. Travis. She was a member of St. Phillips Episcopal Church in Southport, NC.Vestal graduated from Ithaca High School in Ithaca, NY, in 1955 and Maryville College in Maryville, TN in 1959. She recently retired as a Registered Dietician. Her long career included serving as Manager of WT Woodson High School Cafeteria in Fairfax, VA, and as a consulting dietitian for several Long Term Care facilities in Moorestown and Toms River, NJ. She was an active member of the American Dietetic Association.Vesta had three true loves in her wonderful life, her family, her boating and her dietetic interests. She was a loving Navy wife for the first 20 years of her marriage, caring for her children and keeping the home fires burning. She was a gourmet cook and loved to entertain. She and her husband spent many days exploring the Chesapeake Bay on their boat, Annie T. Just this past fall, they brought the boat down the Intercoastal Waterway from the Chesapeake to the Marina at Saint James Plantation in Southport, NC, where they had built their retirement home.Mrs. Hill is survived by her husband of 44 years, Donald J. Hill; a daughter, Beckie Kincaid and husband Brent of Winston-Salem, NC; two sons, Andy Hill and wife Amy Lou of Virginia Beach, VA, and Michael Hill and wife Toni of Jeffersonton, VA; eight grandchildren; also a brother, Dr. Robert Travis of New Wilmington, PA; and a sister, Mrs. Ruth Lloyd of Ellicot City, MD.A memorial service will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, March 29, 2003, at St. Phillips Episcopal Church in Southport. Inurment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Memorials may be made in Vesta's name to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center, 1406 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401.The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at New Hanover Regional Medical Medical Center, Oncology Floor.
