William McComb Obituary

McComb, William

William McComb, 56, passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Ithaca, son of the late Kenneth and Sylvia McComb. Bill graduated from Ithaca High School and attended Alfred University and was a self-employed painter and carpenter. An avid fisherman, his wife arranged a two week stay in August at his favorite fishing resort in Canada. In spite of his illness, he fished constantly and in true Bill McComb fashion, he caught the most fish. Family and friends joined him at the resort, knowing this was probably good-bye. He was hospitalized shortly after returning home and never recovered. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church. A loving and devoted husband and father, Bill is survived by his wife of 28 years, Diana Brown McComb and his daughter, Angeline. He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia McComb, Dora Fish, Beverly Hughes and Janet Roosa; his brothers, Edward and Kenneth McComb and James Murinchek. Bill was surrounded by people who loved him, including his mothers-in-law, Bessie McGuire and Sandra Brown; brothers-in-law, Stephen and Randolph Brown (Debi); his European daughters, Julia Wegeler, Irene Donati and Cecile Gudamensen Jensen; and his beloved dog, Nicki. In addition, many of his wife's relatives were close to Bill and are grieving his untimely death. This includes Kathleen Smith, Elsie Burns and Paul Trembly. His good friends, Dick Dutton, Brian Miller and Stephen Bowman were very helpful during Bill's illness. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his sisters, Kathleen McComb and Sylvia Hiney; and brothers, Robert and John Murinchek. Funeral services will be celebrated by Fr. Jeffrey Tunnicliff on Monday, September 9th, at 11 a.m. at the Bangs Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, September 8th, from 12 noon until 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cayuga Dog Rescue, PO Box 4942, Ithaca, NY 14852.

Diana-- You know you're the sister-of-my-heart and therefore, Billy was my brother-in-law. Billy was a great friend, father and husband-- sometimes gruff, always caring. I will always remember the trip we all made to Panama and how I got to see the funny, ever social
Bill. He got All the inside info for us. And I'll always be thankful he taught me how to fish and the patience he had with me.
Love,
Penny

Patricia, I remember from our days at DeWitt that you were from a large, loving family, which I always found fascinating (and perhaps a bit jealous). My heartfelt condolences on the loss of you brother. I can't pretend to know how I'd react if faced with similar circumstances, but just know there are those of us from your waaay past who are thinking of you.

We played some serious softball, shared some seriously bad jokes, and drank some seriously bad beer. In recent years, I needed some painting done, and we got to catch up, and while we spent some time talking about the old days, Billy spent most of the time talking about Angeline. He was so proud, Angie, and the fact that you are moving through life with courage and compassion and gratitude will assure that Billy will rest in peace. Diana, he always knew how lucky he was to have you as a wife and parenting partner, and he spoke of you with great affection and respect. I just hope Heaven has better beer.
