William Rafferty Obituary
RAFFERTY
KING FERRY, NY - William V. Rafferty, 78, of Rafferty Road, King Ferry, NY, died Thursday, September 10, 2009, in the Cayuga Medical Center, Ithaca, NY. Mr. Rafferty was born in the Town of Ledyard, the son of the late Leo, Sr. and Cora Harvey Rafferty, and has resided in Southern Cayuga County for all of his life.
Mr. Rafferty was a self-employed heating, air conditioning and plumbing contractor. In addition, he was a septic system inspector for many years. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed attending auctions.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Van Norstrand Rafferty of King Ferry; son, Thomas L. Rafferty and his wife, Kim of Romulus, NY; two daughters, Colleen A. Smith and her husband, Craig of King Ferry, Phyllis C. Stevens and her husband, David of King Ferry; two stepdaughters, Mary E. "Beth" Dreverman of Pennellville, NY, Patricia M. Siganowich and her husband, John of Harrisonburg, NC; three stepsons, Gary F. Dreverman and his wife, Pamela of Phoenix, NY, David K. Dreverman and his wife, Donna of Syracuse, NY, Charles L. Dreverman and his wife, Cathleen of King Ferry; two brothers, Leo Rafferty, Jr. and his wife, Irene of Aurora, NY, Robert Rafferty of Aurora; two sisters, Mary Agnes Weldon and her husband, Richard of Union Springs, NY, Elizabeth Teeter of Marathon, NY; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Four brothers predeceased Mr. Rafferty, George, Hugh, John and Edward, who all died several years ago.
Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospicare of Tompkins County, 175 East King Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850.
The Shakelton Funeral Home of Aurora, NY is in charge of arrangements.

Carol and I are so sorry to hear of your loss. We have known Will for many years. We both did heating work in Ithaca and bowled together on the Porter Sheet Metal team many years ago.
We’ll miss running into him at the Triangle, having him test our water system at the lake or having him mow our field. – any good excuse to enjoy his company and share a cup of (decaf) coffee.

Our deepest sympathy for your family at this time of loss. My fondest memories of Uncle Willie is when I was a child and he living on the farm. He took our family in when we had a house fire and kept us till we could return to our home. Very generous to do that for us.
