WILLIAM O. WERNSING
ITHACA - William O. Wernsing of Ithaca went to be with his Lord and Savior, Sunday, August 27, 2006, at Beechtree Care Center in Ithaca surrounded by family and friends. He was born August 11, 1930 in Hackensack, NJ, son of the late Walter and Alice Wernsing. He received his BS degree in Electrical Engineering from MIT in 1954, and he married Lucille E. Bates on August 20, 1955 in Augusta, ME.Bill was employed by G.E. in Ithaca for ten years, then started his own electronics business in research and development and was awarded several patents. He has attended Bethel Grove Bible Church for many years, was on the Board of Directors for WMHR in Syracuse and also organized a trip to Homestead, FL with Samaritan's Purse to do relief work after hurricane Andrew. Bill and several friends founded Christian Services whose primary purpose was to loan the Moody Bible Institute's Sermon of Science films to small churches free of charge. He was an amateur radio operator, very active in Civil Defense, and also a student pilot.Bill is survived by his wife, Lucille; son, Gary (Dorothy Boorse) and their sons, Galahad and Marvin of Beverly, MA; daughter, Jane (DJ) Holling and their sons, Matthew and Joshua of Horseheads, NY; brother, Walter (Joan) Wernsing of Hendersonville, NC; and many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his sister, Barbara.A celebration of Bill's life and his faith in God will be held at Bethel Grove Bible Church on Saturday, September 2, 2006, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607-3000; Hospicare, 172 East King Road, Ithaca, NY 14850; or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are by Bangs Funeral Home.
