BARBARA MCCALL Obituary

BARBARA MCCALL Barbara McCall of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, formerly a long time resident of Newton, passed away on April 7, 2023 after a short illness. Barb was married for 64 years to Richard R. "Dick" McCall of Newton, who preceded her in death.. Barb was born in 1932 in Osawatomie, Kansas to John and Lila Findley. She met the love of her life, at the University of Kansas, and graduated in 1955. The McCall's had two children, Marc (Lori) and Becky, four grandchildren, Scott (Natalie), Connor (Madison), Leah, and Cameron. Barb also had the great joy of one great grandchild, Scott and Natalie's daughter Maggie. During her time in Newton, Barb was vice president of the family shoe business as well as having her own women's ready to wear store, Barb & Company. She loved fashion and enjoyed helping her customers find the perfect outfit or accessory. Dick and Barb were founding members of Trinity Heights United Methodist Church, where she served on the Board of Trustees along with countless committees. She was an active member of PEO and Sorosis and served on the boards of United Methodist Youthville, Axtell Christian Hospital, Prairie View and the Newton Community Theater. She was a charter member of Friends of Hospice, which is now Central Homecare and Hospice. In 1993, Barb was bestowed the overall Woman of the Year award. Volunteering came naturally to her and she felt that is was important to give back to the community that had given so much to her. A Celebration of Life will be held later this Spring. The family asks In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Safehope or Newton Meals On Wheels.

Barb was an incredibly generous woman! She treated all her children“s friends as if they were a member of the family. Condolences to Marc and Becky and their families!
