David Partridge Obituary

PARTRIDGE, David

David Partridge died of complications from pancreatic cancer on March 29, 2014, at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. He was born in Flint, Michigan, to Ronald and Dorothy Partridge. He was 75 years old. A native of the tiny farm community of Clio, he was raised in the house his grandfather built.

A National Merit Scholar, David graduated from the University of Michigan in 1960, where he played clarinet in the Michigan Marching Band, thrilled to lead the band onto the field of screaming fans.

In 1964, David earned his MBA from the Harvard Business School, where he was proud to be among the first classes in that program to include women classmates. He sang in the Harvard Glee Club – and to his knowledge he was the only business school graduate to have ever done so.

Following graduate school, David moved to California where he met his wife, Catherine. They had two children. In 1974 he founded his own company, Data Devices International, Inc., which specializes in data management and data security solutions.

David's lifelong passion for music was solidified when in high school, at the age of 16, he won a scholarship to attend the prestigious Interlochen School's summer arts program. David played sixteen instruments and especially loved jazz, the philharmonic and the opera. One of his favorite boyhood memories was listening to Bennie Goodman's Carnegie Hall 1938 recording with his father on the weekends.

David was an avid supporter of both music and the arts, a world-class traveler who had visited every continent, and had friends all over the world. Those who knew him will remember him for his positive attitude, bright smile and booming laugh, which filled a room with joy.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Catherine, and their two children, Michael and Monica.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers you make a donation in David's name to an organization he passionately supported, the Pasadena Museum of California Art, where he was Chairman Emeritus of the board of directors. Partridge family;

It is with great sadness that I just recently learned of David's passing.

I have had the pleasure of knowing him for the past several years as a business associate and even more proud to have called him a friend.

In my 35 years in business, I have never met a man with more integrity, respect and honesty. I will miss him and the meaningful discussions we had about business and life.

Please accept my deepest condolences. We lost a true gentleman and I will truly miss my friend.

Sincerely;

Precious Cathie, Monica and Michael,
Your David was one of the most intelligent, fun loving and committed dads/husbands we have known. It was an honor to be in his circle of friends -- especially Indian Princesses and the program affiliated with Childrens' Hospital Los Angeles.
We know how pancreatic cancer goes. Our daughter-in-law's mother was taken by it in 7 months!
We pray that you all had some good months to acknowledge the memories and miracles you've experienced together.

With great love and a sense of deep loss and deep faith,
Yours truly,

Nancy and Henry
