Joan A. Gilmore
Joan A. Gilmore 84, died July 20, 2021 at Comfort Care Home in Newton. She was born March 2, 1937 in Newton, Kansas to Tom and Edna (Frances) Abplanalp. On May 31, 1958 she married Paul Gilmore at Burns, Kansas and he preceded her in death on September 26, 1991.
Joan was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Newton and worked as Lab Technician at both Axtell and Bethel clinics.
She was known for her loving, kind, loyal and intelligent spirit. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. In addition to her love of family you could find Joan at local thrift shops, working on family genealogy or taking walks around the neighborhood. She also enjoyed learning new things and being around pets and animals
Joan is survived by her children Susan Gifford, Thomas Gilmore and Sarah Miller; her sister Linda Strasser, one niece Cathy Eaves 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul and sister Thelma Gabel.
Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 23, 2021 at Pleasant Center Cemetery in Rural Burns, Kansas. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home.
Memorial donation may be made to Caring Hands Humane Society in care of Petersen Funeral Home.

Dear Susan, Tom, and Sarah, I am so sorry to hear that your mom passed away. We don't take the Kansan, so I missed the visitation. Your mom and dad were good friends of ours, years ago. What a great couple! Sending my love and sympathy.
