Lorenzo Hartley Jr. Obituary

Lorenzo Dow (Red) Hartley Jr. passed away Tuesday, July 30, after an extended illness and fighting the "Big Fight" at the age of 78.

He was born on Aug. 21, 1934.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Judy; Dow and Quida Hartley (father and mother); Robert (brother); and Billie and Helen Faye (sisters).

He is survived by brothers, Tim (Wanda) and James (Paula); sons, DJ (Kathy), Chris and Rusty (Unetta); and daughter, Gwen Federspiel (Joe).

He cherished his grandsons, Travis and Joey Federspiel, Jesse Hartley; granddaughter, Kristi Hartley; and great-grandsons, Riley James (RJ) and Coby Dow (CD) Federspiel.

Dad was stern but fair, tough but not mean, honest and trustworthy, and a man of his word. He bestowed these traits upon his children, and we hope to be able to do the same for ours.

We should have fished more.

Visitation will be on Saturday, Aug. 3, at 10 a.m., with a service at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway St., Newton, KS 67114. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Newton.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dow and Judy's favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at stjude.org.

I was saddened to have had to miss Dow's funeral. He and Judy were good friends and co-workers of mine for many years at Excel Ind. We shared many good times together and I am sorry for the families loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
