Marie M. Bacon

Marie M. Bacon, 84, passed away on June 10, 2014.

Services will be Tuesday, June 17, at 10 a.m. at the Schowalter Villa Chapel, 200 W. Cedar, Hesston. A graveside service will follow at the McPherson City Cemetery.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Hedges; her brother, Leroy Hedges; and her sister, Elizabeth Tipton.

She is survived by her husband, Wallace Bacon of Hesston; her son, Todd Bacon and his wife, Barb of Wichita; her three grandchildren, Paige Bacon of Seattle, Brooke Cheney and her husband, Ryan and daughter, Olivia of Wichita, Alex Bacon of Wichita; her niece, Judy Schultz of McPherson; and her beloved cat, Sophie.

Marie was born on July 11, 1929, and grew up in McPherson. She married Wallace Bacon in 1947, and they built a life together with their son, Todd, in Newton.

After high school, Marie worked for the F.W. Woolworth Company, and spent the remainder of her career at First Bank of Newton until she retired in 1992 after 35 years. She was an active member of Trinity Heights United Methodist Church and volunteered with many community organizations, which included the Ladies Lions Club and the Soroptimist Club.

Marie spent the last five years of her life at Asbury Park Assisted Living in Newton, and Schowalter Villa in Hesston. Marie's family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to everyone who offered her loving and compassionate care throughout her last days.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with Schowalter Villa, Hesston; Caring Hands Humane Society, Newton; and Harry Hines Hospice, Wichita.
