VERA A. SILLS

VERA A. SILLS Vera A. Sills 91 died June 27, 2024, at Paramount Health and Rehab in Newton. She was born September 11, 1932, in Hillsboro, Kansas to Peter and Martha (Knak) Schroeder. She married John Sills on April 26, 1953, and he preceded her in death. Vera was a longtime active member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Newton. She was a graduate of Hillsboro High School, she worked at Southwestern Bell, food service at Newton High School and retired in 1992 from the former Friendly Acres Retirement Home dietary department. Vera was good at playing the piano and enjoyed singing in the church choir and the Newton Treble Clef choir. She was a very dedicated supporter and watcher of KU basketball. She is survived by Daughter, Sheila (Neal) Williams and Daughter In-Law, Nyla Sills; grandchildren Tonya (Tom) Cowan, Brett (Marissa) Sills, Kelsey (Kyle) Purdon, Ryan (Jay) Williams, Nathan Williams; and great grandchildren Colbey, Kyleigh, Taysley, Maci, Tate, Layla, and Charlotte. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and Son Larry Sills. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Salem United Methodist Church in Newton. The burial will be in the Restlawn Gardens of Memory Rural Newton. Memorials may be made to Salem United Methodist Church and left in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
