September 5, 2025

I hope that God will comfort every family member over the Homegoing of Doug Barfield. It was a privilege for me to know him over the past several years that he resided at Lancaster Grove Assisted Living Facility. He was kindly toward my sister Mary, who lived there for about 3 years. I have conducted a Friday morning Worship Service at the Grove, which Doug nearly always attended if his health permitted. He was good friends with Don Bower. Usually Doug would begin our service with prayer, and his big, booming voice commanded everyone's attention and respect. He had a good sense of humor, loved Clemson football, and was always kindly in his remarks. We will miss his presence, but we are glad he is now safely with Jesus in Heaven (2 Cor. 5:8), which is "far better" than anything we have ever known on this earth (Philippians 1:23). His son Doug visited him frequently, which encouraged him a lot. A resident at the home who was also from Kershaw said Doug (Sr.) also had a godly father. I hope your entire family will love and follow Christ as Doug did (1 Cor. 11:1) In Christ's loving grace, Pastor Bob (and Nancy) Lanning
