Elliott Caskey Obituary

LANCASTER – Mr. Elliott Jack Caskey, age 92, died Friday, May 15, 2015, at his home. 
He was born July 19, 1922, in Lancaster, the son of the late Ira Webster Caskey and Della Blackmon Caskey, and was the husband of the late Ada Casey Caskey. 
Mr. Caskey retired from Springs Industries. He was very involved with the Boy Scouts, earning the Eagle Scout award. He was scoutmaster of Troop 75 for many years and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award, the Distinguished Eagle Award and the Boy Scout Hall of Fame Award in 2010. He also received the District Commissioner Award of the Palmetto Council from Boy Scouts of America. He was named Outstanding Senior Citizen for Lancaster County in 1965. Mr. Caskey was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and served in many roles, including Gideon and lay speaker. He was very instrumental in the building of the current church. He never failed to witness to many throughout his life. His greatest role was as a husband to his late wife, Ada, and as father to his children, as "Paw Paw" to his grandchildren and as "Pops" to his great-grandchildren.
Mr. Caskey is survived by three daughters, Nancye C. Hammond and her husband, Jack, and twin daughters, Rebecca C. Ghent and Rachel C. Robinson, all of Lancaster; six grandchildren, Michael Caskey (Shari), Greg Caskey (Donna), Amy Cooley (the Rev. Kevin Cooley), Bryan Ghent (Shauna), Philip Robinson (Lisa) and Matthew Robinson; 11 great-grandchildren, Kevin and Adam Caskey, Caroline and Maggie Cooley, Paige and Payton Robinson, Joiner and Jackson Ghent, and Noah, Ella and Kara Caskey; two brothers, Ira Webster Caskey Jr. (Mavis) and James Caskey, all of Lancaster; a sister-in-law, Jettie Caskey of Lancaster; and a sister-in-law who was more like a daughter, Nickye C. Outen and her husband, James, of Piedmont. 
Mr. Caskey was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Leroy Caskey; a son-in-law, Bart Robinson; a granddaughter, Jennifer Anne Robinson; three brothers, Alfred Caskey, his twin brother, Edward Caskey, and Haskell Caskey; and four sisters, Mary Pitmon, Minnie Drye, Pearl Phillips and Edna Tillman.
The celebration of life funeral service for Mr. Caskey will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 18, at Grace United Methodist Church, by the Revs. Brian Humphries and Kevin Cooley. Burial will follow in Lancaster Memorial Park. 
The family of Mr. Caskey will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. this evening, May 17, at Burgess Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Nancye and Jack Hammond.  The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Grace United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 418, Lancaster, SC 29721.
