Monroe: James Alfred Rowse, Jr. , 92, passed away on September 10th, 2025, in Monroe, GA.
James was born on May 8th, 1933, in Boston, Massachusetts. He was a proud graduate of Hebron Academy and he attended Middlebury College. He served in the U.S. Army before embarking on a distinguished career with Veryfine Juice Company, his family's multigenerational business. Incorporated in 1865, family members all worked tirelessly to develop their innovative and quintessential New England brands. As Vice President of Sales and Treasurer, James played a vital role in expanding the company's domestic and international presence. Known for his quiet confidence, one of his signature sales techniques involved delivering the pitch and then calmly cleaning his glasses while awaiting a response.
James had a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and history. He restored antique cars with parts sourced from Hershey, Pennsylvania. He took great pride in rebuilding furniture and improving his home. A passionate gardener, he was well known to spend time outside with his tractors, horses and Jerusalem donkeys. James also built beautiful horse trailers to transport his daughter's horses to equestrian events, including English, Western and rodeo style barrel racing.
James demonstrated remarkable resilience and ingenuity-most notably when he hand built a water access system for his neighborhood in St. Croix, following the devastating Hurricane Hugo of 1989. James was also dubbed "The Blue Avenger" for chasing down a hit and run driver in his blue bathrobe. The hit and run driver was later arrested after begging for protection at the local police station.
James found a spiritual community at Heritage Bible Chapel during his years in Princeton, Massachusetts.
James was predeceased by his beloved wife, Caroline; brothers David and John; parents James A Rowse Sr. and Anna B Rowse. He leaves behind his brother, Samuel Rowse and his sister, Edith (Rowse) Fallon.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughters Lucinda (Rowse) Farris; Victoria (Rowse) Hawks and her husband Lawrence; Robin (Rowse) Gonsalves and her husband Jeffrey; grandchidren Brittany (Hawks) Kearns and her husband Father Andrew; Elizabeth (Hawks) Sangrey and her husband Gavin; Taylor Rowse Hawks and her partner, Joseph Sinclair, Mang Biak Cin and his wife Nuam Nuam; Ni Sung Tial and her husband Sang Aa; Heather (Farris) Sanchez and her partner Abramo Giorgi; Jason Farris; Hailey Farris; Candice (Gonsalves) Jackson and her husband Jerome and Joshua Gonsalves.
