Zane Chwastek Obituary

Chwastek, Zane A.; age 64; of Kalkaska; passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at Munson Medical Center. He was born on August 8, 1950 to Raymond and Frances (Ferenc) Chwastek. He married Martha “Lynn” Ridley on June 15, 1974 at Holy Redeemer Church in Detroit. They moved from Dearborn in 1980 and made their home in Kalkaska where they raised their two daughters. Zane worked as a tool and die welder most of his life. He commuted between Livonia and Kalkaska weekly while working at MPD Welding until his wife got sick, then he stopped commuting and went to work at Todd’s Welding Service so he could be close to her. He worked there until an injury in 2006 forced him into early retirement. Zane was an avid member of the National Rifle Association and a proud member of the Republican Party. He was a very religious man who loved the Lord, and would give you the shirt off his back before you had time to ask if he thought you needed it. Zane like watching old movies and taking scenic drives but his favorite thing to do was to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all those that knew and loved him. Zane is survived by his two loving daughters, Christine (Chris Collins) Chwastek of Kalkaska and Rebecca (Brian, Jr.) Barber of Clark Lake; his seven cherished grandchildren; his dear mother, Frances Chwastek; and his brothers, Larry Chwastek of Kalkaska and Mike Chwastek of AZ. He was preceded by his wife of 33 years, Lynn who passed away in 2007; and his father, Raymond. A memorial service is being planned for the spring. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Zane to Munson Hospice, 1105 Sixth St., Traverse City, MI 49684, an organization close to his heart for the wonderful care they gave Lynn. Condolences may be left online at wolfeoneill.com Arrangements were made by Wolfe-O’Neill Funeral Home, our family serving yours.
