Charles Guthrie Obituary

Charles Guthrie

Charles "Chuck" Guthrie, age 77 of Gallatin, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 4, 2014. He always said he wanted to go out with a bang! And he did!

Mr. Guthrie was born on November 13, 1936 in Hardinsburg, KY. Mr. Guthrie is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Allen and Pauline Robbins Guthrie; and sisters, Dixie and Shirley Guthrie.

He is survived by wife of 55 years, Jewell Guthrie of Gallatin. Mr. Guthrie is also survived by son, Martin Guthrie of Hendersonville; daughter, Joni of Pleasant View, TN; grandsons, Brandon, Kenny and Casey; great-grandchildren, Lainey and Lochlan; and many cousins and nephews in Kentucky.

After high school, he join the Marines, serving 4 years, and transferred to the Air Force where he was for 11 years. He went to McMurray college and Murray State University where he earned his masters' degree. He worked at Murray State University for 20 years and started the Adult Literacy Program. After retirement, he went to the VA every Friday to council with the veteran suffering from PTSD and other problems.

Memorial Service will be Friday, July 11th at 1 p.m., from the First Methodist Church in Gallatin.

Memorials may be made to VVOA Chapter #240, P.O. Box 1281, Gallatin.
