LAKE WALES - Allen B. Herrod, 78, of Lake Wales passed away Monday, November 4, 2013 at his residence with his loving wife and family by his side, due to cancer.
He was born August 14, 1935 in Leachville, Arkansas and has been a resident of Polk County since 1957 moving here from Leachville, Arkansas. Allen was the Owner/Operator of Quality Auto and Radiator, Quality Boats. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, NRA; Airboat Club, US Army veteran of Korea. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was of the Baptist faith.
Allen was preceded in death by his sisters, Minnie Bell Stewart, Joyce Rice; brothers, Charles Barnes and Everett "Tuffy" Barnes.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Silke Herrod, daughters Donna Blanchard of Lake Wales, Cindy Sanford of Davenport, Connie Long and husband Jeff of Lake Wales, Chyrl Mellon and husband Mike of Winter Haven; son, Jimmy Herrod and wife Starr of Elwood, IN; brothers, Lynn Barnes, Vernon Barnes, Jerry Barnes and Roy Barnes, all of Lake Wales; 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home with Rev Frank Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers family requests donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice or any cancer research organization.

Our hearts were deeply saddened to read about the loss of Allen. I will never forget back in 1985 when I lost my mom in a house fire and had two small chikdren at that time. Allen helped us out in a time of need when we didn't know what we were gonna do and it was a blessing to us. I know it is really hard at this time but always remember God is here to help you through it. The family will be in our hearts, thoughts, and especially in our prayers at this difficult time.

I'm sorry I have no words to make this easier for any of you. When the bus comes for us, we have to get on it .Lost my father 35 years ago and still cry my heart out every fathers day. I'm glad my last memory of Allen will be of him out @ his garden doing what he loved. Allen, tell my family in heaven I'm trying go get there but the bus just hasn't came for me yet. Will see the rest of you Saturday @ Nelsons.

Prayers your way Jimmy & family...I know how hard this is because I lost my Dad almost 2 yrs. ago and it still hurts like it was yesterday man ! Silki, I am so sorry to hear about Allen. One of the first things I would look forward to do when I came to Fl, was to come and visit Allen and you Silki. Allen would say, here comes that damm yankee from Minnesota. And then he would say, glad to see you. I will miss him. I will pray that God will help you Silki through this. Thanks for letting me Know about the loss of my friend. I will be in Fl soon.
