ST. PETERSBURG - Brett Murray, age 22, formerly of Lakeland, Florida, died Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at his family home in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Born February 16, 1986, in San Diego, California, he lived in Lakeland until he and his family moved to St. Petersburg in 2001. Brett had a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and enjoyed running and lifting weights. He was also an active believer and follower of Jesus Christ, a loving son and kind person to all he knew.
Brett is survived by his mother Linda Murray of St. Petersburg; father David Murray of Lakeland, sister Lauren Murray, and grandmother Dorothy Fletcher of Sherwood, Oregon.
His loving spirit and selfless attitude will be greatly missed. Memorial service will be held at 11am on Sat., May 31st at Anderson McQueen Funeral & Cremation Centers-NE St. Petersburg Chapel-2201 Dr. M L K St N. and also at 7pm on Monday, June 2nd at First Presbyterian Church, 175 Lake Hollingsworth Dr., Lakeland FL 33801. Dear Murray Family,
Our family remembers Brett as a young man who wanted to have fun and be a part of the group. He was always willing to go along with everyone and have a good time. I am sure he was met at the Pearly Gates by Grandpa Murray, his Uncle Al and Uncle Nakamura-san who have now become his "posse" ...and I am sure he is teaching them all the finer points of electronic gaming! Brett has kicked the door down into eteranl life where he can be free and happy. And play non-stop! Brett is a sweet person who will be remembered by us as very kind hearted and eager to please. Our family will keep him in our hearts and prayers.

I remember sitting with Brett everyday in lunch when I was in the 10th grade. That was his graduating year. He always knew how to spice things up, and it makes me wish I would have known him longer. :] God Bless him, and his family. He will be missed but he will not be forgotten.

Dr. Murray and Mrs. Murray,
I had the pleasure of teaching Brett while at McKeel Academy when he was in the 6th grade. He was always sweet and hard-working, and had a quaint sense of humor. I know the pain of losing a child, having lost my son Joey in October, 2007. I will keep you both and Lauren in my thoughts and prayers and hope for eventual peace for us all.

There are no words to express the sorrow and grief you are experiencing. Only someone who has loved a son as we have can possibly imagine the hole in your heart. I pray you will find some comfort in knowing how very much Brett was loved, admired, and respected by all who knew him.
I have such fond memories of him as a little boy while I was working at Grasslands. He used to come to the club, and it seems the whole place just lit up when he walked in. His smile was infectious. May you continue to feel his warmth as he forever smiles upon you.

We enjoyed knowing Brett through his years of life while growing up with our son, Trevor as we lived in Lakeland. There are plenty of fond memories that will be cherished forever.
