CHARLES POTTINGER Obituary

CHARLES EUGENE
POTTINGER, 75

WINTER HAVEN - Charles Eugene Pottinger, 75, passed away in Winter Haven, FL, on Feb. 27, 2018. He is survived by Linda, his wife of 56 years; son Mike and wife Ruth; son Mark and wife Patty; five grandchildren: Ryan, Kristina, Kyle, Savannah and Luke; brother Harry Pottinger; and sisters Charlotte Ruiz and Mary Sleght.
He joined the Kansas City, MO, Police Department in 1963 and earned his bachelor's degree in law enforcement from the Univ. of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. His police assignments included field patrol, helicopter unit, crime scene investigation and dispatching. He was awarded KCPD's second highest honor for saving the life of a fellow officer during a bank robbery. He held advanced certifications for divemaster, dive instructor, underwater rescue, bomb scene investigation, riot and crowd control, high speed pursuit, and terrorism and violent death investigation.
After retiring from KCPD, he taught law enforcement at PCC in Winter Haven for 10 years and at Central Florida Criminal Justice Institute in Orlando. Also, he developed and taught the first 9-1-1 telecommunications training program for law enforcement dispatchers in Polk County, FL.
The center of his heart was his family. He considered his proudest accomplishment to be his two sons. They in turn provided the light of his life - his incredibly brilliant and wonderful grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in Lee's Summit, MO.

I will never forget my friend, Chuck. Many things remind me of the fond memories. He had a great sense of humor and his laugh would make laugh. He and his wife Linda shared their home and family with me. I love each of them still today. I look forward to our soul's meeting in Heaven, I know he's been on some adventures and I can't wait to hear about them.

Just learning of Chucks passing. We will soon see him in heaven. He was my instructor for two certifications, at the old PCC. I am a Marine, and he used me for several demonstrations, and we had so much laughter together. I am very sorry he is no longer with us, and God Bless his family and loved ones. Be seeing you soon Chuck!

"Chuck", as we called him, was a great instructor for the PCC Police academy. He was also a honored friend whom he shared his family, his views on life and many good laughs with. Chuck has always been there for me as well as his wife Linda. I'm deeply saddened of his passing and I pray for peace and healing to all those who are hurting. I pray a special blessing for Linda, Mark, Mike, Mary and the grandchildren.
